Imagine with me this… you are in a car, and you want to travel to somewhere, you have small knowledge of the car’s functions.. okay?
You keep driving and driving, you don’t know where you are going, would you keep going?
Somewhere during your trip, you’ll stop and say to yourself: “why am I doing this?” “where am I going to?”… then you would have two choices, whether to give up on the trip, and lie down somewhere waiting for a miracle or you would grab the map and point your finger at somewhere and say “I want to go there” “ I will go there” “someday I will be there”
You my dear is in that point, you now have to make a choice, whether not to care about the trip (your life) and just waste it like that and lose many things in it or place the options in front of you and write down goals to achieve.
What kind of goals? It depends on your priorities. Sit and ask yourself, what matters in your life? And why does it matter?
Write down in a paper the most important things in your life, your mother? Your studies? Your relationship with God? And put your goals. There are many kinds of goals, short-terms (e.g. cleaning your room) and long-terms (e.g. having a college degree) Temporary (e.g. working on a project) and for infinite (e.g. going to heaven)
Back to the car, if you didn’t know the car’s functions, then you wouldn’t know how to use it when you need it. If you didn’t know what are you capable of then you won’t use your skills and abilities when you need them. Every one of us have powers like diamonds inside them, if we didn’t find those diamonds and polish them, then they will never be used.
For example, you have a talent in giving public speeches, but you never tried to do so, and one day you were forced to give one. Then you won’t be confident. Find your inner-powers and develop them. Don’t waste them, it’s as if you are not using the car’s air-condition in a very hot weather.
The time you spend in studying is going to benefit you in the future, for you will learn a lot and you’ll develop several points of views and gain knowledge that is going to help you in the future. The time that you are going to waste on playing is not going to give you something back in the future. When you are studying, reading, working on a project, it’s like investing your money in a bank, for, you are developing yourself. But wasting your time is like throwing your money on fancy dresses and cars and stuff that give you some joy for a short while. Then you will regret doing all that when you really need the money.
You is a person that needs you to care of, what is the most loveable thing about yourself?
What makes you happy?
What do you like the most about yourself?
What do you like the most about your friends?
The answers to these questions are not a matter of pass or fail, it’s the matter of how should you live your life, and how much do you appreciate life.
Stop whatever you are doing and sit with yourself in “a moment of truth”, be honest to yourself, you are the only one who can save yourself. We can throw to you a lifebuoy, but you decide whether to grab it or not.
May Allah help you on your studies.
